Kej Manik' [keh • man-eek] specializes in handmade goods combining modern and traditional materials, as well as styles inspired by the Guatemalan culture. Kej, or Manik' in K'iche' Maya, is one of the most powerful signs in the Mayan calendar (Tzolk'in) and it's the sign (Nahual) of the Deer.
Kej Manik' is the brainchild of Myriam and Carlos, an aunt and nephew team (although they are more like brother and sister) who share the same Mayan birth symbol or Nahual, which is the deer. So when they had to name their shop, they knew immediately what they wanted to call it. With Kej Manik', they seek to highlight Guatemala's unique and colorful culture by combining traditional materials with the work of Guatemalan artisans and Carlos' own art.
